How Much Does BioLife Pay for Plasma?

BioLife doesn’t state one specific payment figure on its website. Instead, it says:

  • “For specific information on compensation, please contact your local center.”

After much research and checking the pages of the company’s various donation centers, I did find some specific figures.

BioLife pays first time donors $20 per donation. After that, payment varies from $30 to $50 per donation.

If you donated plasma twice per week, you could earn $240 to $400 per month.

How to earn more money per plasma donation

$30 to $50 per donation isn’t bad, but $90 to $130 per donation is even better, right?

Just how do you earn that?

You can earn more than $30 to $50 per donation if you use a coupon for your specific BioLife donation center. These can be found online.

Here’s how to do it:

Advertisem*nts

Step One: Find your nearest center

Go to this page and click on your location from the list of the company’s centers.

Step Two: Check if there’s a coupon

After clicking on your location, you’ll be taken to a page that’s dedicated to that BioLife center. It will provide pertinent information, such as the address of the center and the opening hours.

On this page, you should be able to see a link for any available coupons. Coupon availability varies by location. I did some digging through the pages for many of the company’s centers, such as those in Alabama, Massachusetts, and Texas, and found coupons offered for various centers.

If there are coupons available, you’ll see somewhere on the page, usually on the right, it says something like “New Donors-click here for a coupon to bring on your first visit this month!” or “Click here for our Buddy Bonus coupon this month.”

Click on the coupon you want.

Step Three: Get your coupon

Once you have clicked on the link for the coupon you want, you will then be able to see what type of offer is available at that center.

The offers vary.

For example purposes, I’m going to cover details of the coupon offer I found for the company’s center in Arlington, Texas.

I clicked on the coupon link for new donors, and I was taken to a page where I could get paid $750 for 8 donations.

BioLife stated, “Donation fees will be paid in the following order $90, $100, $90, $90, $100, $90, $90 and $100.”

So, $90 to $100 per donation is pretty good, right?

To give you another example, I also checked for coupons offered at the company’s location in Worcester, Massachusetts.

Again, I followed the link for the new donor coupon, and I was taken to a page where I was offered $900 for 8 donations.

BioLife stated, “Donation fees will be paid in the following order $100, $130, $110, $110, $130, $95, $95 and $130.”

$130 per donation is a lot, right?

These coupons are definitely worth getting.

If you see a coupon you like for your center, you will need to bring it with you when you plan to donate.

You can print the coupon, save it to your phone, or take a screenshot of it.

How does BioLife pay you?

When you donate plasma to BioLife, you’re paid with a BioLife Debit Card.

This is a debit card on the MasterCard network, which is loaded each time you donate plasma at a BioLife Plasma Service center.

You can use this debit card to make purchases anywhere that accepts MasterCard debit cards, and at more than 900,000 ATM locations worldwide.

How Does Donating Plasma with BioLife Work?

Here’s what to expect when you get to the donation center:

Step One: Sign in

When you arrive at the center’s reception desk, you’ll be asked to sign in. As a new donor, you should review the general donation eligibility guidelines for information on identification and proof of address prior to your first donation.

Step-Two: Pass a Pre-Donation Screening

Every donor, regardless of how long they have been donating, must pass a pre-donation screening at every appointment. You will need to complete an electronic questionnaire about your health and medical history. This is to make sure that donating is safe for you and for the patient who receives treatment made from your plasma.

Step Three: Medical history

A Medical Historian will measure your vitals, including weight, blood pressure, pulse, and temperature. A technician will also take a little blood from your finger to measure your total protein and hematocrit. Hematocrit is the percentage of blood volume occupied by red blood cells. These measurements let the center know if it is safe for you to donate on that day.

Step Four: Physical Examination

As a first-time donor, and subsequently annually, you will receive a brief physical examination from the center’s on-site medical staff. This is to make sure you are eligible to donate, based on your health and medical history.

Step Five: Donate

If you are eligible, then you can donate plasma. The process of donating plasma is called plasmapheresis. It involves separating the liquid part of the blood, or plasma, from the blood cells.

Step Six: Get paid

After your donation, the center will pay you. Weekly fees are based upon the completion of two successful donations in one week. Donation weeks begin each Monday.

Step Seven: Set up your next appointment

You can schedule your next appointment online. You can donate up to two times in a seven-day period, with at least one calendar day in between donations.

On your first visit, the whole process usually takes around two hours. On your subsequent visits, you’ll generally spend about an hour in the center, or an hour and a half.

Closing Thoughts

Typically, BioLife donors can expect to earn $30 to $50 per donation. First time donors can earn $100 or more per donation, or up to $900 in their first month donating, depending on their local center.

Now that you know just how much BioLife pays for plasma donation and the benefit of donating blood, all you have to do is find a center near you and start making a difference in other people’s lives and your wallet!
