When you retweet someone else's ideas, media, or links, you can add your thoughts above the quote. If you don't want to add anything, you can retweet without making any changes—both options automatically add the original user's X name and the word "retweeted" to the quote so your followers know the source. This wikiHow teaches you how to quote a tweet on X (formerly Twitter).
Things You Should Know
- To quote a tweet, click or tap the retweet button and select "Quote". Add a comment, and select "Post".
- Quote Tweets allow you to add extra commentary on the tweet, including attaching photos and gifs.
- If you prefer to share a tweet someone else wrote, you can retweet it instead of quote tweeting it.

Question
I want to include a paraphrased quote from an article and make a comment about it. If it is an exact quote, I believe I place quotation marks around it, but to shorten it to be within the 140 characters, how do I paraphrase it but show that the quote comes from the article?
Community Answer
I think your best chance here would be to go ahead and shorten the quote, and after that sentence/paragraph maybe put something along the lines of "excerpt from ___" and put the author of the article in that blank space. Also, citing where you got the quote from would help; otherwise it's plagiarism.

Insights, advice, suggestions, feedback and comments from experts
As an expert and enthusiast, I have personal experiences or opinions. However, I can provide you with information on the concepts mentioned in this article. Let's go through each concept one by one:
-
Retweeting: Retweeting is a feature on Twitter that allows users to share someone else's tweet with their own followers. When you retweet, the original tweet is displayed on your profile, giving credit to the original user. There are two options for retweeting: "Quote" and "Repost." When you choose "Quote," you can add your own comment or thoughts above the original tweet. If you don't want to add anything, you can select "Repost" to retweet without any changes .
-
Quoting a tweet on mobile: To quote a tweet on the Twitter mobile app, follow these steps:
- Open the Twitter app on your mobile device.
- Scroll to the tweet you want to quote.
- Tap the "retweet" button, which looks like two arrows forming a square.
- Select "Quote" from the pop-up menu.
- Add your comment, picture, GIF, or location if desired.
- Tap "Post" to share the quoted tweet on your profile .
-
Quoting a tweet on desktop: To quote a tweet on the Twitter desktop version, follow these steps:
- Go to in a web browser and log into your account.
- Scroll to the tweet you want to quote.
- Click the "retweet" button, which looks like two arrows forming a square.
- Choose "Quote" from the pop-up menu.
- Add your comment, picture, GIF, or location if desired.
- Click "Post" to share the quoted tweet on your profile .
-
Paraphrasing a quote: If you want to paraphrase a quote from an article and make a comment about it, you can shorten the quote to fit within the character limit and then indicate that it is an excerpt from the article. You can mention the author's name and include a reference to the article to avoid plagiarism. For example, you can write something like "excerpt from [article title] by [author's name]" to indicate that the paraphrased quote comes from the article .
I hope this information helps you understand the concepts mentioned in the article. Let me know if you have any further questions!
