  3. #4 Best Private High Schools in ColoradoSt. Mary's AcademyEnglewood, CO·Private School·PK, K-12·Rating 4.27 out of 5 133 reviewsParent: My daughter will graduate from high school at St. Mary’s Academy in a few days. From my perspective as a parent, I have seen her thrive academically, athletically, socially, and culturally during her four years there. SMA has provided a supportive and challenging environment that has encouraged her to grow as a student and as a leader. While SMA may be small in size, it does offer a wealth of academic resources and AP classes as well as many athletic and extracurricular opportunities. Teachers are experts in their fields and highly engaged with students. The administration has been responsive to community concerns, and the college guidance program has provided wise counsel throughout the process. The head of school even took the time to personally advise my daughter during her college decision! My daughter has been admitted to several leading colleges and will be attending Yale in the fall. 7. #16 Best Private High Schools in ColoradoThe Denver Waldorf SchoolDenver, CO·Private School·PK, K-12·Rating 4.5 out of 5 22 reviewsParent: I have two K-12 alumni and one current HS student. Besides the fine academic preparation, their "life-skill" acquisition has been hugely rewarding. Although there are fewer in-school club opportunities as a big school, the sports program (and opportunities at partner schools) are very strong. All team members who practice will play. Students who seek non-school sports can play at nearby Division 3, 4 or 5 schools. But most importantly, my children have learned how to be constructive members of a team, and have become very effective working with people when they disagree. Learning to face interpersonal issues head-on, with understanding and empathy is super impressive. Based on the inclusion demonstrated at school, accepting students and people with differences has become natural for them.Regardless of what they do after college, the adaptability, intellectual curiosity and interpersonal skills engendered at DWS will help support life-long satisfaction by any measure.... As time went on I further realized what a niche Jewish community could offer. Not only that but I can confidently say there has never been a dull moment at DJDS. The hallways are always filled with laughter and the school trips and events are always filled with spirit- filled with people who just love being Jewish. I am always set up to succeed both academically and socially; the academic rigor (at your level) combined with the fun elements of class lead to the best combination for upmost learning. Not only that but I also know the teachers are always there for you and know what they are talking about. There are very few, if any, “negatives” to this school. One of the other best parts of this school (which is why I don’t have very many changes to the school) is that if you want something it is very much possible to achieve/change it. 11. #17 Best Public High Schools in ColoradoDSST: Cedar High SchoolDenver Public Schools, CO·9-12·Rating 3.76 out of 5 33 reviewsAlum: DSST: Cedar is a perplexing case. Its academics are by far amazing! While, no, a student enrolled here will not have the same amount classes to choose from when compared to a student at a flagship DPS High School, the classes offered are still interesting and especially useful for acquiring college credit. Cedar should be especially proud of its college preparedness program, students are given time by the school to submit applications and work on everything regarding the college admissions process. They meet with advisors that actually know them, well. All, in, all DSST Cedar should be proud of itself, its academics are phenomenal, its classes interesting, and will prepare students for college. Yet, in every other possible aspect, DSST Cedar fails. It should not be proud of its extracurricular selection, with the school barely able to support its clubs, the school tends to aire on the cluiqe-er side, and with poor facilities outside classrooms. Committed teachers and great culture. Klinkerfues, Grimes, Phenna, McGinnis, and Gilmor were standouts. The school does suffer with integration of the GT program- only art/music/PE classes are combined, which caused serious alienation when I was there. The GT program also did a VERY poor job emphasizing hard work over natural talent. Study skills, time management, and perseverance were barely taught. My GT peers had to either do the painful learning curve of middle school/high school/college (realizing that you can't just coast by on being smart) or they fell off academically. About a third of the GT kids are really excelling in high school, and the remaining kids are about 1/4 normal students and 3/4 druggies on the verge of dropping out.... They're no cliques at Columbine, everybody is friends and can rely on one another to help. 17. #26 Best Private High Schools in ColoradoDenver Christian SchoolLakewood, CO·Private School·PK, K-12·Rating 4.1 out of 5 60 reviewsJunior: My experience was varied, but a blessing overall. Most elementary teachers were kind and appropriately strict, but some could be somewhat unreasonable at times; the middle and high school teachers are generally kind, forgiving, and mostly good at teaching: they seem knowledgeable and caring of students, but don't always execute perfectly. Academically, I think that the middle school was too easy and fell a little short in preparing us for more advanced education, while the high school education is challenging -- if you take the honors and AP classes offered; It has helped me learn greatly - both with information and thinking strategies. That being said, some people are increasingly overwhelmed with homework. In terms of faith-based learning, the school is excellent: the bible classes give students a fuller understanding by putting biblical passages in context. Now, as a senior, I have been the lead in my school musical, captain of the cheer team, and student body president. These are things I never believed I could achieve. Teachers encouraged me the whole way to step out of my comfort zone. The community I have built here is something I will never forget. I have learned how to talk through difficult topics, and have conversations with people in a respectful manner. I would love if our school had more diversity. Having people from different backgrounds and modes of thought is so essential to shaping students, and it is something my school definitely lacks. She was bullied and didn't make any progress academically whatsoever in her last year at her previous school. When she started a Prospect Valley, they immediately adjusted her grade level, by moving her down a grade. They addressed her emotional needs and met her where she was physically, mentally, and academically. My child blossomed at Prospect Valley. She felt loved and she felt heard. Every parent wants their child to have self-confidence and that was stolen from her at her previous school, but they worked to build it back up at Prospect Valley. 26. #65 Best Public High Schools in ColoradoGolden High SchoolJefferson County School District No. R-1, CO·9-12·Rating 3.73 out of 5 289 reviewsJunior: During my junior year of high school, it was my first year being in Golden. Getting used to this school was difficult, having to adjust with 7 class schedule, my couple months were having to hurry in under 5 minutes to get to class. I noticed the most, being in school was how much I changed to be a better person, my intentions to focus in learning, improved communication without being nervous. One of the best parts is, most lesson in class are different every week, for example, Marine Biology, I get to lecture on facts about starfish. In the next day, I would dissect a starfish or ELA, I would be in group discussion, I then get to enjoy reading a book. I get to learn in many ways without having to be boring as I continue to be interested in doing things in class. One of difficult experience is having to always think about grades, my goals were to improve my score. I hope there is a chance for some difficult classes to be given extra credits for those who aren’t well in past work....
