Northwest Motorsport has closed, the company announced this week.

Don Fleming was the owner and chairman of Northwest Motorsport at the time of the sale. The following year, RFJ was acquired by Sonic Automotive. In September 2022, Sonic bought the dealership's Washington properties and buildings — six car lots in all — from Fleming for a total of $45 million.

The used-vehicle dealership was based in Puyallup and had 11 locations in Washington, Idaho and Montana, with Seattle-area locations in Puyallup, Lynnwood and Everett.

After almost a half-century as a driver and car owner, NASCAR legend Junior Johnson is out of racing. Johnson, 64, sold both of his race teams Wednesday, one to driver Brett Bodine and the other to Bob Brooks of Hooters. Brooks then turned around and sold the team to Arkansas lawyer David Blair.

Northwest Motorsport announced the closure on Facebook on Thursday, saying that the company closed its operations as of Tue., Jan. 23. The company reportedly came to the closing decision "after thoughtful consideration and evaluation of today's pre-owned vehicle market conditions."

In 2020, Northwest Motorsport was acquired by Plano, Texas-based RFJ Auto Partners. And RFJ, in turn, was swallowed up by Sonic Automotive (NYSE: SAH) in September 2021, including the Northwest Motorsport brand.
