Proverbs 3:13-14. ESV. There's no limit to your ability to gain wisdom or to give it out. This passage and in other places in Proverbs, we find that wisdom is something we get from God, not just from our experience. And we can give it without limits.

There is another reason why Wisdom is better than gold, silver, jewels, long life, honor, peace, happiness, and safety all combined (vs. 13-26). Wisdom is the “root” and all the rest are the “fruit”. Wisdom is the cause, and the rest is effect.

The psalmist here expressed that the law of God, God's word, was more precious to him than silver or gold. And it can seem strange why anyone would place that value on a set of laws. But the word translated here as law is torah.

The New Testament describes Jesus “As wisdom” more than a few times. Try reading Proverbs with Jesus as the thing being pursued; it fits perfectly. (Proverbs 8:12, 22-33) describes Jesus being there from the beginning, so does (Colossians 1:15-17).

Wisdom is a possession whose value far outweighs that of silver and gold. The reference to "her" continues the pattern of imagining wisdom as a woman (Proverbs 1:20). As used in the book of Proverbs, wisdom is the ability to act on knowledge.

Here, Solomon emphasizes the idea that failing to control one's words is a recipe for disaster. A foolish person's uncontrolled, thoughtless words hurt others, who will eventually hurt him.

In other words, God is in love with every one of us. The Gospel says that not even a sparrow will fall to the ground outside our heavenly Father's care. Yet, “sparrows” continue to fall, innocents die, children are sold for a few dollar s or thrown away as soon as their short flight of life took off.

Those called by God to believe, however, recognize God's foolishness in giving His Son as the greatest of all wisdom. They see the incredible strength required for Christ to remain on the cross and die instead of exercising His power over those who would kill Him.
