What works better for E85-Dual pattern camshaft or single pattern? And why? Also for a 10 second car is a 750 carb more consistant or a 850-footfed car ? I've only messed with the E85 for about a yr. Have some to learn yet E85 camshaft choice? - Don Terrill’s Speed-Talk (2) I also have this idea that E85 burns better with steel heads verses alum. am I right?

I have a feeling cam info is going to be more dependent on the other details of your engine before the fuel will be considered. I have been completely happy with cams that are a good match for my head flow, induction, CR, CI, and intended usage. I am sure I could find a few more ponies if I had a cam ground specifically for it, but I am not too worried about a few ponies in play toys.

Well if My combo is pretty much maxed out on gas will going to E85 be more consistant? Or would I need the proper camshaft to accomadate the E85? I know some have different recommendations for using Alcohol. Will a 110 lobe seperation work better on E85 or 106 seperation? Am I over thinking this E85 camshaft choice? - Don Terrill’s Speed-Talk (6)

Without a lot of information on your build , the 106 cam will have more bottom end and slightly less on the top end ( power band is narrower ), a 110 cam will have slighly less on the bottom and a little more on the top (powerband is wider ), higher rpms want more centerline, more air in wants more exhaust duration, but all of this info is just the general trend of different cams, if I had a 7000 rpm 350 ci auto trans car I might want the 106 cam, if it was a 7500 rpm standard shift car I would like a little more centerline 108-110 , more stroke generaly wants more centerline, 350's like 106 and 383's like 108 but this is just generaly speaking, small carb runs well with single pattern cam put a big carb on it or NOS and it want's more centerline and more exhaust duration.

The little I played with E85 I found that the cam specs are much the same as what is needed for a gas engine. Maybe just a little more exhaust duration but nothing like what you would need with methenal.

Personally I would 1st.design the engine around it's CR.

I would, if I was to create a dedicated E85 engine, shoot for 13.5 to 14 to 1 CR., and then cam accordingly.

And then so note that here in Columbia, MO that our winter blend of E85 may drop off to E70 because the extra gasoline give's it better cold weather light-off than straight E85 so you need to make damn sure youe are buying E85 the year around.

PS., oh, and btw it was zero here at 5:50 this morning just south of town! That's why I mention cold weather gasoline/ethanol blends.......................
